that would be great if you could share your experiments of suspended sediment sampling.
and does anybody know about a device which can present daily suspended sediment graph automatically like limnographs?

There is a large body of research available on measuring suspended sediment, such as in streams. Probably of any agency, the US Geologic Service has contributed the most information over time, but many researchers have also studied and presented methods, etc. The difficulty in measurement beyond the dedication of resources that may be needed, is there is difficulty in measuring. The concentration of fine sediment changes with time, stream stage, upstream activity, and is not fully uniform across the channel cross section. Concentration of suspended sediment varies with flow velocity, stream stage, sources of sediment, and episodes such as intense rainfall/stormflow events when fine soil particles are disturbed on rainfall impact and introduced and within stream settled sediments may be reintroduced as water level and flow velocity changes or from bank erosion, disturbance, etc. Most streams have a relationship of water level (stream discharge) and suspended sediment and even bedload movement occurs in some events. It is no easy task to determine this sediment concentration and flow relationship, and it can be temporarily or intermittently altered by episodic events such as landslides or significant human activity (eg, road building) or natural disturbances (wildfire, earthquakes, hurricanes or major floods).
If you can develop the suspended sediment relationship to flow for a stream of reasonable stability, then by measuring the flow, you may be able to estimate the daily average sediment concentration or the sediment loading. There is the mineral component of suspended sediment (sands, silts, clays, etc.) as well as an organic component that may need to be considered or separated.
There are various approaches that have been used to measure suspended sediment, or to collect and store sediment accumulation through time periods. Some of these methods would be considered standard tools, such as those published by USGS. But others have from time to time, developed alternative methods or tools to help address the difficulty and complexity. There are various tools that may help automate this estimation, such as recording turbidity meters installed in stream or pipes, and useful if a relationship between turbidity and suspended sediment is developed for a specific stream. Transducers to measure and record water level changes are often critical if trying to estimate suspended sediment changes and loading with time. Automatic sediment samplers are available (such as from ISCO company) to set water sampling frequency such as during stream storm hydrograph, helpful to characterize the changes in suspended sediment with water level in stormflow, or set to sample periodically if activities such as development or instream mining were actively contributing. These instream point samplers recognize some limitations in providing true cross section suspended sediment average concentrations, but more detailed sampling is sometimes done during storm events to help document the vertical and horizontal differences of suspended sediment concentration within the cross section, and compare that with the point sampling data to determine the needs for adjustments.

William, does ISCO make samplers that can actually perform a suspended sediment measurement, or are you just referring to automatic sampling devices that you would take samples from to analyze in the lab? We sometimes use ISCO samples during storm events paired with weekly grab samples across our watershed to use for EPA method 160.2 for TSS.

Do you know the range of the price of these tools ?
There were several questions above. The ISCO samplers mentioned take a sample of water at a point in the stream, and samples would be taken back to lab for filtering and drying, etc. The tools to do this work can be pricey, so suggest if you lack funding that some homemade samplers such as those used in the researchgate coauthored document on Sediment in the Chattooga River Watershed may be useful. Sediment researchers of companies making equipment may have used, refurbished, loaners, rentable of even gifts of equipment on surplus, but you would have to contact them or perhaps a researchgate question on this may help you find equipment. The USGS documents should identify various equipment or internet search on subject. Last time I checked, the ISCO water sampler with rechargeable battery and stage actuator totalled about $2000. Even the wadable rod with sediment sampler that is lowered through sampling verticals of cross section with bottles is probably $100. Then there is various filtering equipment, oven to dry, analytical scales, furnace to volitize organics if desired. If sampling large rivers, there may be pickup mounted crane, heavy weight samplers that look like torpedoes, etc. It is hard to guess how much cost.
