Can anyone suggest good surfactants/detergent to prepare electrocleaners solutions, to clean metals anodically and cathodically, prior to both electroless and electroactivated plating, please?

We don't want to use a commercially available electrocleaner, but try to make our own, since the commercially available ones are not always effective in cleaning our samples.
