There are two drugs for treatment of Chagas: benznidazole and nifurtimox. Both work primarily by generating superoxide radicals, similar to metronidazole. While mammals detoxify superoxide (albeit with significant side effects), protozoans suffer fatal DNA damage.
I know of no vaccine candidates for Chagas. Like other apicomplexans, trypanosomes feature highly variable, highly immunogenic "decoy" surface antigens that facilitate immune escape.
