Is this globalization in motion? If the EU eventually agree to Turkish membership, it will extend into Asia. Japan say a post-Brexit Britain could join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), despite the fact that the UK is surrounded by other waters! Is it time to change some trade organisations' names?
Apart from any issue about geographical denominations (Turkey has a piece of land on the European continent and the UK has territorities in the Pacific such as Pitcairn) globalisation has been around for a long time and accelerated drastically since the late 15th century with Columbus' and Vasco da Gama's discoveries. Trade can bring more than financial advantages, e.g. in terms of ideas and innovations. But the key question is whether it's fair and equitable.
Well, that's an interesting perspective Cornelia, thank you. My own views on these matters areas follows: 1/ The bulk of Turkish territory is in Asia 2/ We'd rather forget Pitcairn if you don't mind! Mutineers with unacceptable male enforced rites of passage for underaged women, if I remember properly! 3/ In those centuries we hadn't even discovered all things on the globe. So it was hardly "globalization". At most it was "internationalisation."

The EU is not a trade organization t is a quasi federation nor is it likely to agree to an EU accession with Turkey. Turkey's road to the EU is almost entirely blocked as a result -inter alia- of its on democratic regression, its deepening Islamic-Nationalism, and its revisionist foreign policy on a regional basis. the EU is highly unlikely to expand beyond the confines of border line between the old Soviet Union and its former East European satellite states. Turkey-EU relations even on the trading level are at a low point given the fact that even the updating of Turkey's customs union treaty of 1996 is blocked by Germany, Greece and Cyprus (obviously for different reasons.
On the second part of your question I do not know exactly how significant a British participation in TPP would be for the UK given that the bulk of its trade is with the EU (43% of total according to 2016 data). A hard unstructured Brexit will create a void that will put the UK -even if the border issue with Norther Ireland is resolved-at the backburner of EU trade deals and with no access to the EU Common Market. Under this scenario even Norway and Turkey will have better access to the EU markets than the UK!! I do not think that this shocking event for the British economy can be counter-balanced by a TPP participation with Japan and the other 10 members of the TPP after the US withdrawal in 2017. Total UK exports to the TPP states are estimated to around 18,859 billion Sterling (UK Trade Info, 2015, I do not include numbers for Brunei and New Zealand since they are below the top 50 export partners). These 18,86 Bn Sterling account for 6,18% of total UK Exports, not a big remedy for the schokwave of an unstructured Brexit that is held hostage to internal UK Tory micro-(if not petty) politics.

I disagree with you about Turkey. Indeed, the UK has strongly supported it's future membership in the past. At present, Germany is seeking to smooth the path a little. Yes, membership is on hold, given Recip's regime, but will on again when things change.
Why you find "trade organisation" offensive, I cannot fathom. The EU is an organisation which, amongst other things, promotes a particular form of trade.
People rarely agree on definitions but still debate endlessly. Don't get bogged down in them, you just might miss the party!
