If we fail..we know food insecurity will follow us..also loss of genetic diversity will curtail success of future breeding/selection by scientists/farmers.....also may threat future of the species itself ...can we do something here..especially in the Middle east desert areas ...

May be obscure here because there is no elaboration.......but the issue is very important and reasonable......yes it is essential to conserve genetic diversity of all of our food species....date palm is a very important species for not only the Middle East but for all of us. This is a very successful plant species...adapted to arid ecosystems......very good source of nutrient, minerals and vitamins...a good 'health food' .....so there is no doubt about its place in the global conservation program....but unfortunately there is little emphasis till now in this.
The need is to identify, document and conserve the genetic diversity....maintain the germplasm and allow natural selection and also select and breed to meet the need of food for us. A well coordinated and international long-term project is needed and we hope the work already started will be supported and will be the basis of the much needed long term initiative. We are willing to participate in any of these initiatives....and will consider this an opportunity very much loved to involve.
