I have noticed that students of all courses have less preparation, also less responsibility and commitment to their studies, even less dedication to assignments (and less time dedicated to them).
I agree with you. Most students no longer feel a real sense of responsibility towards their assignments because they have become accustomed to idleness and the scarcity of assigned tasks. Additionally, they rely on artificial intelligence platforms to complete academic tasks instead of searching and thinking deeply to find solutions.
Greetings. I consider that it was to be expected that due to the improvised training dynamics experienced by teachers and students in times of pandemic, upon returning their academic performance would be impacted. Technological means have become, in their misuse, the enemy that steals the attention and concentration of students in the classroom and at home.
Rey Segundo Guerrero-Proenza Definitely "YES!" Some students suffered from COVID-19 that immensely negatively affected their attendance and performance throughout the semester.
Nora Al-khuza'ay Exactly, you have pointed out a real fact: problems are not the consequences of a single factor, they depend on a system of factors, and here the presence of recently emerged AI tools, very-very useful by themself, can be a problem (actually they are) if approaches learning and teaching activities are not changed, as well as motivational ones.
Sandra Patricia Leones Rodríguez Indeed, even, as the result of improvisation, it was created a new concept: Emergency Remote Education (ERE), expressing the tools and procedures applied to distance education approaches resulting from the massive transformation of almost all institutions into virtual ones.
The experience showed that most of them were not ready for the new situation. As the result, the poor preparedness of students.
On the other hand you have mentioned another issue, the misuse of tools in class, particularly mobile ones, used by students, specially in lectures, not as a tool of support for the content read/discussed in the classroom, but for watching everything else, except what it is supposed to be read.
BTW, that problem is not new, it was before pandemic, but now it's sharper...
Zoncita Del Mundo Norman You have mentioned another dimension of the problem: students who were directly affected by the Covid 19.
But even among those, who were not biologically affected, can be found many which behavior were/are modified by stress or simply by changing their everyday routine, and all these are now reflected in their current face-to-face activities.
