Both tensile and compressive strengths of concrete increase with the decrease in temperature. With this in mind and considering that fracture energy is in direct correlation with the so-called mechanical properties, is it plausible to assume an increase in fracture energy at sub-zero temperatures and/or owing to the complexity of fracture energy and its dependence on a large number of parameters namely, aggregate type, curing temperature, it would be on the safe side to assume it equal to its value at normal temperatures? If so, what is the range so as not to provide unrealistic results under sub-zero conditions?
