I am trying to find explicit guidance on calculating GHG emissions related to a land use conversion from forest (especially tropical mixed deciduous and semi-evergreen forests) to reservoir (i.e. an area is flooded by the construction of a new dam). I am interested in how to treat different pools (e.g. above ground biomass, below-ground biomass, soil, etc.) and implications of release of CO2 and CH4 over time. Finally, I am interested in any guidance on assumptions about removals prior to inundation (for example, selective logging prior to flooding the reservoir).

Chapter 7 of the IPCC (2006) Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories provide several steps to estimate CO2 and Non-CO2 greenhouse gas emissions from flooded lands including reservoirs constructed for the production of hydroelectricity and irrigation (Please check in the Section 7.3 of the chapter 7 and in Appendix 2 and 3).
