The short answer is yes, it is possible - provided you have MTB isolates from the patient collected at diagnosis, and sequentially during their treatment. The isolates can be compared using genome sequence variant analysis enabling distinction between acquisition of known drug resistance mutations, and a new infection with an MDR-TB strain.
