Publication of a good piece of work by the researcher(s) in any field, especially science and allied areas in a suitable journal is the ultimate and satisfying goal. But, with a view to high visibility, often it is confusing to chose a meaningful option whether to go for a high impact journal or craving more citations or be desirous to have both?
All are not that lucky to get the best as per desire. But if it is known beforehand it may help him a lot. If it is so, what may be the general option for a sincere researcher to help develop the strategy of writing the paper and be prepared in all aspects since beginning so that the paper may be published accordingly?

I think it may be an individual choice.
To me, open access publication is more important than the higher IF, as it can attract more researchers. On the other hand, it may act as some basis for more citation.

I think both are important. Publication in high impact journal obviously attract more citations. I too agree with Dr Pattanayak that publication in open access journal also lead to increased citation due to greater visibility.
both are important, if you publish in a high impact factor journal then you will get more readers and then you will get more quotes
Basically, you want to publish your paper where it will be read. Generally that means in a journal that covers the topic of your work and that your competitors read. At least in physics, the "high impact" journals chase the current "hot" research areas, and so are not appropriate places for most work. In my experience, citations cannot be predicted. They should not motivate a choice of what to work on or where to publish it.
