I coated Fe3O4 (magnetic nanoparticles with 50-100nm) with silica by using TEOS. It seems pretty good and then tried to further modify Fe3O4@SiO2 core shell nanoparticles by polypyrrole. Nano-particles was suspended in HCL (1 mol L-1) and sonicated. Subsequently, pyrrole was added in the reaction mixture and stirred for 30 min. For stirring as it is magnetic particles so i cant use magnetic stirrer therefore i use shaker. APS in 1 mol L-1 HCl solution was used as oxidizing agent.Polymerization was continued for 10 hr but unfortunately it cannot be separated by magnet. I noticed it loses the magnetic property. Does anybody have idea where i went wrong?
Fe3O4 nanoparticles can be dissolved in strong acid. You can try to lower the HCl concentration.
Thank you. I will Try that. and how do you stir the solution? I have been using shaker as i cannot use magnetic stirrer.
I'm using a mechanical mixer. Shaker can be other option but it is not strong stirrer so magnetic particles may be agglomerated.
