We have used standard UV-spec and a Nanodrop 1000 to quantify DNA in the past. Can anyone recommend the fastest, most accurate way to quantify DNA? The Nanodrop was, quite frankly, a very slow process and students with poor pipetting skills often missed the pedestal. However, standard specs needed large volumes to be read. Has anyone found a system that you are satisfied with?

I am using an Epoch micro-plate reader (BioTek co, USA) in my lab since 3 years ago and it is much faster than the Nanodrop. It has 16 spots to put 16 samples on them (compare to 1 spot for most nanodrops). After 3 years, we are happy to have this nice machine

I think none of the methods that I know are more fast and straightforward than Nanodrop, but you can use a Qubit 4 Fluorometer by Invitrogen, or use a UVstar microplate for spectophotometer.

I think nanodrop is the the fast way to quantify nucleic acids. Frankly, you are more than a professor, you became a mother for your puppils. Your students need to improve pippeting skills, imagine they becoming profissionals without such skills (tough love!). The use of Nanodrop spec and similars is widespread in molecular biology laboratories.

Don't worry I have been teaching for twenty years and have won faculty member of the year! I know that the students need to learn to use a micropipettor correctly but when you have a class of sixteen that each has to quantify their dozen samples, it becomes very time-consuming.
