Dear Experts,
I have experience doing an experiment to find the concentration of Heavy metals using ICP-MS and Flame-AAS with the same groundwater sample. But, for the result, the AAS concentration was 10 times higher than the ICP MS result. For Cd and Pb, I could find the result in the AAS, but not detected in the ICP MS.
It didn't occur in the soil sample which also conducted at the same time. Both results are almost the same.
Do you have any idea about this phenomena?

Could you provide more details about how exactly the was the analysis done by AAS? On a first glance, I would say contamination during sample preparation is most likely the issue.

What are the numerical values of these results? Make a table or list them one by one, e.g. Pb (FAAS; ICPMS), Cd (FAAS; ICPMS), etc. What are the concentrations of the main ionic components in this water sample (Ca, Mg, Na, K, SO4, Cl, ...)?

Each sample has different concentrations as you know. If the concentration of your groundwater sample is not on the AAS or ICP MS curve, you are not able to get a result. I suppose to prepare samples that have different ppm/ppb values. Also, as you know ICP MS works ppb levels. For this reason, I think, AAS results were higher. Can you give more specific details?
