Lou et al. (2024) mention in their paper that grape-derived EVs target intestinal cells and grapefruit-derived EVs tend to target macrophages. I could not find a clear mechanism that explains this phenomenon but suspect that this is likely due to differences in the receptors of EVs of different origins that have affinity to different surface proteins of cells that internalise these EVs.

The kind of lipids present in the EVs might also influence this phenomenon (perhaps, some cells are more likely to internalise the EVs with specific lipids.

I would love to hear from you all what else could explain this. Feel free to correct me as well, if there is a weakness in this explanation.

Until we investigate this in the lab, this discourse could be enlightening.
