Our lab is gathering information about Gorilla, an online platform for building experiments (https://gorilla.sc). Has anyone heard of it, used it, or do you have colleagues who have used it? Do you have any experience with other web-based platforms to collect reaction time and accuracy data that you would recommend?
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Checkout https://www.cognitionlab.com, a web-based platform for managing all kinds of cognitive study designs in the web, plus ready-to-use cognitive test paradigms and a scripting language to author own reaction-time experiments. There is also a free companion website https://www.cognitionlib.com where you can develop, test, and share experiment scripts with the larger research community. (Disclaimer: I am associated with the vendor of Cognition Lab)
Our lab at the University of Birmingham have just started using Gorilla.sc to build online experiments. So far, I have found Gorilla.sc really intuitive and easy to use and so I would definitely recommend it to other researchers.
On their webpage Gorilla.sc say that they "use high resolution timers for accurate reaction times and frame counting for accurate stimuli presentation times". Therefore, Gorilla might be an appropriate tool to use for an experiment measuring reaction times. Do note, however, that the timing accuracy of Gorilla.sc has not yet been validated (they are currently in the process of commissioning research that tests the timing accuracy of Gorilla). I found the sample code really useful as there were examples for altering or adding content to the task via script (i.e. forcing participants to be in fullscreen when taking part, changing background text and colour, implementing live scoring etc.).

TLDR, The major finding was that – for most users – the timing accuracy is pretty good across all the tools. Definitely good enough for the vast majority of studies with within-subject designs.
