Isn't that very important? It means that there is no constancy at all. On the contrary, when considering Michelson's and Morley's findings, the only true way to make light waves be transported, is to have an ether that is found to have a zero speed at the Earth's surface, which suggests that ether can be related to gravity potentials, or to a hydrodynamic sea of gravitons. In that case, light speed could be very different at other places in the universe.

Even with entangled particles, one can see that the space between them contains an ether that allows super fast communication.

You may be up to something important.

But the deficiencies you mention are clearly minor. So no real major new theory seems to be required up until now on their basis, or is it?

I am not sure what you mean by 'downstairs'? Are you referring to the Pound-Rebka experiment? Do you have a paper on this?

Oh you are suggesting that c is not constant. Yet there is not one experiment that shows otherwise.

People rarely point their finger on this fact, but indeed c is assumed to change in gravity. (Only locally it is believed to be unchanged.)

I believe that only frequency of light changes in gravity, not its velocity. From an observer outside a gravitational potential, light appears to slow down, but in fact its because the area in a higher potential is time dilated, but with reference to the potential's non-inertial reference frame, the velocity of light is constant.

Actually variable speed of light (VSL) has been studied by many people and for many years, its not a new idea, yet there is no experimental evidence against light being constant, in fact all experimental evidence, to date, states that light does travel at a constant velocity.

Most recently Joao Magueijo and Niayesh Afshordi have done an extensive study on it, and have even suggested an experiment to prove it. In face John Moffat's work preceded the work of Magueijo, and yet most are still unconvinced.

It would be interesting if c did vary but to be honest, it is highly doubtful.

In fact Einstein considered it as well here is a quote from my paper, " Variable Speed of Light [VSL]: Einstein himself first mentioned the possibility of a variable speed of light [VSL] in 1907 (Einstein, 1907), and more comprehensively in 1911 (Einstein, 1911b). He concluded that c is constant in a constant F, but would vary in a varying F. Einstein in the 1911 paper neglected the varying of fundamental length scale in different F, he stated that “The principle of constancy of the speed of light can be upheld only when one restricts oneself to regions of constant gravitational potential,” (Einstein, 1911b). "
