As the case, wanna to know what is the main difference between energy inspection and energy audit. It seems that the both refer to compare some results to known standards.
From my point of view, inspection refers to the determination of energy consumed by an equipment/process, etc. Energy audit is not only to determine the energy consumed by a process, but to estimate the optimum energy required for achieving the objective without compromise and suggest ways to achieve conservation of energy.
Excellent answers so far, generally an audit refer to a verification process wherein energy savings claimed for example is verified to be correct - as in the case of CO2 carbon credits, an auditor or energy auditor has to verify the carbon savings or sequestration as part of the verification process.
Energy inspection can be a technical inspection to verify that equipment is working properly or that metering equipment is connected correctly to ensure correct readings. Inspection in my opinion to not verify readings but rather check the measurement and verification process and equipment correct.
