I asked ChatGPT one of my research questions which I know the answer to, and ChatGPT gave me the wrong answer. I told ChatGPT that it was wrong and it argued with me and then I asked CHATGPT for a citation and it gave me a fake citation for research that doesn't exist.

For questions like calculate the area under the curve for the function f(x) = whatever with respect to x you will get a good answer, but for cutting edge research you will get a wrong answer because CHATGPT is always confident in its answers and it does not know what has happened after the year 2022 because it was disconnected from the internet to prevent internet corruption from malicious users giving it fake information.

So no, I don't think it will be that helpful in authoring a full student's research work. I know that somebody will surely do it and get away with it and get a diploma and job in the process but science will be corrupted with fake information that "makes sense", and then somebody will cite that scientific work and more people will cite it and believe it until somebody reproduces the experiment and finds it was wrong from the beginning.
