You can develop the idea that education is the best instrument to achieve socioeconomic progress. Try some countries statistics about education level correlation with Gini index, real GDP per capita, healthy life expectancy, or something unorthodox like World Happiness Report.
Education should be for social awareness, skills development, and making human life better.
From nature and goal of education, your conference is about the latter. The topic is huge and it is the main theme of philosophy of education. My suggestion? First read some classics and get inspirations,keywords, key areas and ideas:

Education for What? this is nice topic for discussion.Many thinkers has given an view and opinion on 'Education' that is also appreciable.In psychological,sociological and educational view there are different ways to define the Education.Moreover,Education is best instrument of changing the right behave of the individual for creative citizenship as well as for understanding what is out duties towards society,nation and world.Every education system is depend on that particular national policy and context of that nation.But common factors are always welcome by every Nation.Education is for self development,society development,national integration,international understanding,creative citizenship and involvement of good output.
