I wanted to find out about the extent of summative assessment training for trainee teachers and why it is important for Classroom Assessment practice.
It is important to make summative assesment right (distribute vs. in the end of the course), it also important to draw proper conclusions from the assesment results, and finally it is importan to properly integrate expected values into the course and curriculum design. Teachers, especially those involved in course and instructional design, must know how to properly use summative assessment in order to provide correct scaffold for the students advancement through educational courses and programs.
The primary purpose of a summative evaluation and assessment is to ensure that individuals have mastered the skill in question. Summative assessments evaluate student learning, knowledge, proficiency, or success at the conclusion of an instructional period, like a unit, course, or program. The absence of summative assessment, the teacher have no mean but only guess as to the level of understanding.
