We have been using the FLS-920 PL instrument to calculate lifetime for our solid samples(CuO, Bi2WO6).
Our Procedure : Disperse the solid sample in Ethanol or DI water and place in cuvette to measure lifetime.
Ex source : 405 nm pulse diode laser, 100nm @ 10 MHz. Em = 505 nm
The signal data obtained is very weak, it almost matches with the IRF (instrument response) signals.
It would be a great deal, if anyone could help us.
Yes Lasitha P. There are many literatures which have reported nanosecond lifetime for those samples.

What did you use as IRF? Also, as a rule of thumb, one can assume that under favorable conditions, most importantly sufficient counts in the histogram, lifetimes down to 1/10 of the IRF width can still be recovered via iterative reconvolution.
If your solid sample in the micron range then after some time of dispersion, the sample will settle down and the measurement will involve only reference liquid (i.e. ethanol). Hence your IRF is very much similar to the sample decay curve.
