Hi, I recently etched an ECAPed WE43 alloy with Acetic Picral with different compositions none of the above show any grain boundaries. deformation carried out at a low temperature; however, in high-temperature grains were seen easily. Can someone help me to etch this sample?

The geometry and general properties of grain boundaries will directly affect etch contrast and you can not use a similar solution for a certain material processed in different conditions. You may use phosphoric acid solution, which is generally used for electro polishing. You should test different time/voltage etc. and find a suitable balance between voltage and time giving you electroeching instead of polishing.

Conventional Mg alloys have poor strength at high temperatures. A major problem at elevated temperatures is creep failure. In recent years, new Mg alloys have been developed that provide better creep resistance compared to conventional Mg alloys. This has been mainly achieved through two mechanisms: grain refinement and the formation of intermetallic precipitates. The magnesium rare-earth (Mg-RE) alloys are known to have sufficient creep resistance up to 250°C [14]. The Mg-Y-Nd alloys (e.g. WE43 and WE54), with a good combination of mechanical and corrosion properties, have better creep resistance than most cast Mg alloys [15].
Magnesium alloys are corrosion resistant and etching is based on differential corrosion response shown by the grain boundaries. Freshly prepared etchants and also freshly polished specimens are used to obtain better results. Increase the etching time or re-polishing after etching and then etching can be performed.
