This question is based on the journal entitled, "Tenets of Specimen Management in Diagnostic Microbiology" written by Rajeshwar Reddy Kasaria and Laxmi Pathak. From there it was stated that Microbiology specimen collection sometimes requires Nasopharyngeal swabs to diagnose viral respiratory infections. This inquiry aims to understand the advantages and or disadvantages of using flocked swabs compared to dacron, rayon, and cotton swabs, and if possible how they function.
