I am working on a study and trying to find a way to empirically measure emotional labor/differential burden for faculty, particularly in the areas of diversity, mentoring, and committee volunteering that is not currently measured by universities. Can anyone point me toward a metric that might address or measure this?

It uses and references several burden scales.
The Zarit burden scale would maybe fit.
But why not do a qualitative study first with focus groups and personal interviews to identify negative feelings making up the faculty emotional burden in an inductive approach.
Then in a quantitative study, on another sample, validate the items (feelings) into constructs (emotions) through exploratory factor analysis and check for reliability with Chronbach alpha. It would be very good if you identify the specific emotions making the burden i.e.,
If you identified that respondents feel worried and anxious those items will group in a Factor commonly known as Fear.
Then if they are disappointed and discouraged this will be 2nd Factor known as Sadness, and so on using theories and models from psychology.
It is a harder path, but if you have appropriate resources you can develop your own scale.
