I have phenol that's not been stored under inert atmosphere, but I need to have it dry for my experiments but don't know how to (recrystallization, liq/liq extraction, heating over 100°C) ?
Does anyone have a procedure to dry PhOH (< 20 ppm water if possible) ?
If all can be dependent on what sort of experiments you are planning to perform. As we are aware that Grignard type reagents also will work under anhydrous conditions.
You need to remove water vapour completely? Your suggested method should work I suppose, i.e., maintaining at ~ 105 oC for a lengthy period (24 h) will facilitate the elimination of moisture to a substantial low level.
Purification method depends on your impurities, if you are just trying to get rid of water then azeotropic distillation with dry benzene or dry toluene will remove water.
Vacuum distillation of the resulting solid will give you high purity phenol.
Vacuum distillation alone should be sufficient, if you have enough material to dispose of the forerun.
