At my university you are not required to publish to achieve academic status. Teaching is the most important task we have. Second, to me, is the interaction and mentoring of students. Attendance and participation in conferences, seminars, and local university committees is also important.
My University takes a 360 approach to evaluation. This includes teaching , research and outreach. Off course, student feedback is included into faculty evaluation.
Student feedback is one of the components of the faculty teaching effectiveness. Others include in-class peer-evaluation by other faculty, mentoring of students by including them in faculty members' research projects and publications, participation in dissertation guidance etc. The research and service components are additional criteria.
