XRD needs crystalline material while XRF can be conducted on inorganic matrix.Time and cost would the other one.Other than this are there any major advantages.Pls guide.I need it to study the inorganic calcinated metal ash of Gold,Silver and Iron.
One technique is different from the other, they are not comparable, in XRD you can see structural parameters, such as cristallinity, in the other you will get elemental analysis. I believe you should understand the difference between them prior to your study.
as Sergio already commented; XRD and XRF are two different techniques; however they complement each other.
Thus it depends on what you are looking for in your ash:
the elemental composition (---> XRF) and/or how these elements are bound in a local crystal lattice/ lattice type/chemical composition (---> XRD; suffcient crystallinity presumed).
