I was wondering if it was possible to put the samples through a short centrifugation, here is the protocol:

1: Add either “UTM” or “Water RNasi-free” to nasopharyngeal swabs.

2: Vortex.

3: Transfer the sample to an RNasi-free tube.

4: Centrifugation; 12,000rpm for 1 minute at 4°c.

Sometimes the sample is full of mucus and it is difficult to take the sample to dispense it into the plate that will go to the automatic extractor.

I was wondering if it was possible after vortexing to put the samples through a short centrifugation; 4°c for 1 minute at 12,000 rpm (as reported in step 4) and collect the supernatant.

Nucleic acids should remain in the supernatant.

Thank you in advance for your reply.
