I am creating a murine model of dietary iron deficiency. The cages we use in our facility had a stainless steel grid type tops and the water bottles have a stainless steel end to the spout. Is it likely that they will get any significant enteral iron this way.

A couple of older papers talk about using deionized water and plastic tops to cages but most papers describing their models do not.

Can anyone advise?
