For the past few months I have been thinking through how our favorite songs become our favorite songs-- an experience, instrumentation, lyrics, etc. I am curious as to what happens on the chemical level in our brains that may reduce the satisfaction we receive when we listen to our favorite songs.

Do hormones such as dopamine release less after a song is played more? What role does familiarity then play in enjoyment? Does satisfaction go down simply because a hormone is released less, not because it is no longer our favorite song? What role does time play?
