For example, in the case of launching a magnetic cloud as an expanding plasma flux rope, which contains a large amount of plasma trapped in the magnetic field lines of the flux rope. 

Maybe at a certain distance from the Sun the magnetic field of the flux rope get weaker and opened so that the trapped plasma get accelerated again and their measured flux gets higher than expected. 

Or, when the flux rope reaches to the heliopause it bounce back or reflected toward the inner solar system again and may cause a backward-CME at the night-side.
