Indian politics has always been party-driven where the party has superseded all the leaders no matter what their stature is. There have been notable exceptions like that of Late Indira Gandhi but no leader has come too close to be equated with the party. That is till 2014, the year when the general election took place and Mr Modi superseded the party, coalition, fellow leaders, a trend which has more or less continued till date (as evident in the advertisements published by GoI which feature his photos in almost all the initiatives). The prominent use of social media has been a whirlwind factor in this regard as well. The question is, is it possible to say that the leader-driven campaign style which has been the hallmark of US Presidential elections has come to make a mark in the Indian context?
