we did grow BPT-5204 in two different regions and the grain from one looked like brown rice and the other one looked like single polished rice. what could be the reason and how do we prevent it?
I am working at BRRI since 1985. I have grown single variety in different parts of the country. Soil as well as weather conditions were different- might not be like India. Because India is big country having very extreme to very favorable conditions for growing rice. In Bangladesh, paddy color (rough rice) slightly vary depending on rainfall pattern and disease incidence. I have not observed color differences because of rice soil types.

The weather is not so variant as you said. this was in one state but two different districts. i do not have data on the rainfall received. on quality parameters, if colour is an indicator, what are the factors that influence the colour? for an unpolished rice, colour is an important aspect.
Question is very interesting Dr Gannavarapu . I can say , grain color of the paddy has strong implications on the nutritional qualities . For example , brown rice has invariably higher Mg, Fe, Zn , S etc. compared to white rice . but , such color variation is hardly seen as a function of climate? Or a function of any soil -related parameters?. In this regard , i agree with Dr Biswas. Is it a simple genetics of a variety ? Off course, type of processing does has profound effect on color.
I appreciate Dr Anoop. It is the varietal character- color of rough rice (unhusked rice), brown rice (not polished) are genetically controlled. Polishing changes texture of color.
Thank you for your responses Dr. Anoop and Dr Biswas. what i understood from the discussion is logically there should not be any variation in the grain colour of a particular variety based on the soil type; but i removed the husk and saw the grains. one was appearing like single polished rice and the other as brown rice. what could have been the reason?
It is not the same genotype. Might be you have used mixed seeds of different varieties/cultivar or segregating materials.
Let me propose another side of this issue. On a same soil , two types of rice grains , brown and white seeds are observed. And , nutritionally , the better nutrient value of brown rice is well known over white rice. Polishing is one such factor , which could make same brown rice into white rice , thereby , loose the nutrient value?. If this is not the case , how come same variety behaves so differently under similar agro-pedological conditions , especially with regard to nutrient sink?

it is broadly under similar agroclimatic zone. but not similar pedological conditions. that's where the question starts.
