Yep I read the provided online tutorial

the online tutorials are not updated I had to contact the Netica to get some answers yet I am not able to fully understand the software.

I use the software for my current project.

Muaid, yes I do have some experience using the software. In the beginning I liked the provided model library to learn from and also the easy to use API. However, because of the limitation of nodes in the free edition I switched over to use GeNIe/Smile.

Demissie, I went through the tutorial and netica help. Now I can build and analyze the SBN and findout the model performance. But, now I'm trying to build a DBN model, there is no specific step by step tutorial for that (only one example where the network is already built). Could you please help me with the procedure of building DBN?

I haven't successfully built a DBN yet...but think I'm moving down the right track. The difference between DBN and SBN is that you add a link with a delay. After adding a link, right click on it and add a delay (one cycle is enough for me). And then you expand the network like you did with the bouncing ball example. I ran out of memory...expanding the virtual RAM on windows did not work. I still get an error saying I didn't have enough memory...that I needed 31.1 GB. I need to figure out how to expand the memory...or cut down the CBT.

Hi Bernard, my suggestions follow: (1) build a toy DBN, say with only 2 or 3 nodes (from your description it seems you have known how to do it); (2) run your toy DBN model with only 2 or 3 time slices (i.e., input 3 in the pop-up dialog box for "Network -> Expand Time"); (3) run your DBN model after compiling it.  If you are able to complete the above three steps, it indicates you know how to create a DBN with Netica; otherwise, you need to first learn how to build a DBN correctly.  If your toy DBN model works, open your real DBN model, try steps (2) and (3) above to see if you still have the memory limit problem.  Good luck with your DBN using Netica.

Concerning data collected from the survey ( saved in the data file) , the columns hold variables, rows contain data records, which refers to simultaneous measurements of the different states of the variables.

How can i identify the states of each variable from the containing values in the columns so that I can do a mapping between the variables defined in the network and the variables defined in the data file ( During Learning Parametrs phase) ??
