You could try to use this data here https://popu-list.org/ and/or use aggregated individual-level data from ESS of WVS to get an indicator on country-level.
This is a great and urgent challenge to all concerned scholars, practitioners and citizens alike. Preliminary critical evaluations of the vast and growing output on populism in comparative politics are already in progress in Europe and the Americas . I believe they should focus on the interactions between "hard and soft date" -- symilar to those led by Mouffe/Laclau 'agonism\antagonism' arguments of the 1990s. Perhaps we should advise some graduate students to meet this challenge?
I suppose t such preliminary critical evaluation of the current comparative literature on Europe and South America will clear the groundwork for the next steps to compare African and Eastern historical specifications. Rafael Acevedo
