I cannot find a reference for this but assume it ot be the case. If ribosomes are bound to the rough ER during the translocation process, it stands to reason that upon inhibition of translation a number of the ribosomes will fall of of the rough ER. Is that true? If so, is there an image of this or a reference to this?

Inhibition of protein synthesis was reflective of a decrease in polysome size and an increase in free ribosomal subunits and monosomes.
I am not sure what do you exactly mean by change in ER morphology, but inhibition of protein synthesis does led to ERAD or Endoplasmic-reticulum-associated protein degradation. If you would consider ERAD as change in morphology, then I think it does. Here is an example of such PMID: 12623072 .
Hi Ritanker. I explained what I meant by change in morphology in the detailed part of the question: does the ER remain studded with ribosomes if translation is stopped. Presumably the ribosomes have been recruited to the ER by SRP which picks up a ribosome during translation and after exposure of the signal sequence. It stands to reason (at least to me) that if translation stops, the ribosomes will not be recruited to the ER.
My apologies for misreading the question . I would believe the change in RER morphology would depend on what stage is the inhibition is being effected and the type of inhibitor. The following paper "ELECTRON MICROSCOPIC RADIOAUTOGRAPHIC DETECTION OF SITES OF PROTEIN SYNTHESIS AND MIGRATION IN LIVER" does not have the image of RER treated with puromycin , but page 247 mentions increased signal from RER upon puromycin treatment, as the ribosome is stalled on the ER.
