I am currently working on my research. It is aimed to stimulate lysosomal exocytosis to get rid of lipofuscin accumulation in lysosomes. I have read a lot of papers and understood that high intracellular calcium level can induce exocytosis. However, I should find the right way to treat fishes to increase their intracellular calcium level and still be able to observe their lipofuscin concentration months later.

I also read that ionomycin is used to increase Ca+ levels, but someone said it kills cells. So I want to know does it really kill the cells, and are there any other safe methods? Since I am unexperienced and only sophomore undergraduate, it would be appreciated if any other methods for increasing lysosomal exocytosis would be introduced. Thank you.
