i found out, there are several journals which IF is 7~8. but it is classified as rank 2 journals. again some rank 1 journals have iF of 4~5.
so how it actually effect or evaluate in the postdoc application?
and what it exactly means the high IF journal? like more than 5, or more than 10 is HIGH IF journal or something different?
Mainul - it does matter in post-doc selection. As a general rule, the higher the impact of a journal, the more competitive it is and the more rigorous the review process. This is a 'litmus test' that you can convey your work well, it is of good quality and original, that you can target your work appropriately (i.e, to the scope of journals) - and that you understand journal rankings and impact in relation to the requirement/contract of your employing institution.
It depends on the discipline (hence the 'anomaly' in the example you state) - but anything around 5 is often considered 'high'. In my main discipline, the highest ranked journal has an IF of around 4. For some medical disciplines, however, it might not be - and then your target might be 10. You would have to know that as a post-doc researcher. It also depends what you mean by rank 1 and 2? Do you mean Quartile rankings i.e. Q.1, Q.2, Q.3 and Q.4?

and i am doing PhD on chemical engineering. i am working on conducting polymers for the application of chemical sensors.
there one Q.1 ranked journal i found where i wanted to publish my manuscript...and also found another one but it is Q.2 ranked journal. but which makes me confuse that Q2 has high IF than that Q1 journal.
before i always thought, HIGH IF means high ranked journal...now i found differences here...
in that case which journal i should select to publish my paper (both r suitable for my manuscript)
Yes high IF is always desirable / compulsory for post doc level ,from masters
level the attempt should be maintained .
Not always but they will type of publication. If you have done good work automatically you will get good paper with impact factor.
I think higher IF is good to look for, but what also important is the quality of your paper. How many citations you get? How important your paper to the community. These factors affects your application as well.

High impact factor means that the articles from the journal are highly cited. Impact factor does not have significant influence on the post doc application process. Publications in reputed and established SCI journals are desirable. Nevertheless, some professors are crazy about impact factor. They may give preference for candidates having publication in high impact factor journals. Further, few countries (Ex: China) give allowance, bonus and funding to professors depending upon the impact factor of the journal. High impact publication matters a lot in those geographical locations.
sure, it is - among other things (such as an H-index) - a quantifiable indicator for scientific quality (published) of the researcher
Being as a researcher and supervisor of a Postdoc applicant, Principal Investigator might be well versed with the content of the research article published by the applicant and the way the applicant presented their result in the article, (irrespective of the journal and their impact factor). Moreover, in general, a hard-working researcher with innovative research concepts never opts a journal of low impact. Finally, it is up to the research supervisor to decide; and to the best of my knowledge, it is based on the quality of the research done by the applicant and secondly the journal with good impact factor.
