I need to import samples from a foot and mouth disease positive country. Plumb Island reports that I would need to treat my samples with gamma irradiation...they say that antibodies would still be intact in the samples but I doubt that based on what I have read. I am also wondering whether steroid hormones would survive the process? Thanks for the insight!
Is it not possible to extract the (steroid) hormones from the samples at the country of origin? Than you might be able to import the solutions to your place. That worked for me many years ago when I had to send samples to the US.
I am trying to determine if I can extract and bring in the dried extracts...but I am concerned the USDA will not allow it...thusly, trying to determine other options. Does anyone have an literature or actual information on this...I need to try to do some more digging.
Plumb Island says I can extract and not have to gamma irradiate as far as they are concerned but the final say belongs to USDA....any more thoughts on gamma irradiation?
