Does fusion/fission change mitochondrial mass?

Dear collegues,

It is known that mitochondria are very plastic organells that fuse and fiss in response to different stimuli. But does that change the total mitochondrial mass in the cell (as measured by Mitotracker Green for example)? Or does the mass change only when the new "additional" mitochondria appear?
