I wanted to understand if mechanical property measurements such as elastic modulus for ultrathin films (O~ 100nm) can provide an idea about the robustness of thin film for applications as gas separation membranes, specifically, if it can sustain during permeation measurements.

You should do the nanoindentation characterization to study the mechanical properties of your thin films. Nanoindenting is a new method to characterize material mechanical properties on a very small scale. Features less than 100 nm across, as well as thin films less than 5 nm thick, can be evaluated.
