I am study a segment of a membrane protein, but it is difficult to dissolve in water. I was told to dissolve it in DMSO. It did work, but I worry if DMSO denatures protein?
I've used DMSO in partial factorial refolding matrices for a variety of protein classes and the effect can be dependent and independent of the other parameters in the matrix such as temperature, pH, co-solvent, redox couple, arginine, detergents, etc. It depends on the protein/domain and if you are looking for reversibility as well.
