This is a superb stain for hand-cut sections of botanical material. Following prolonged immersion in the stain and differentiation in 1% nitric acid, plant tissues stain as follows: epidermis and cortex yellow; pericycle blood red; xylem orange; cambium pale yellow; primary phloem orange; secondary phloem crimson, sieve plates orange to crimson; pitch dark amber. The sections can then be dehydrated, cleared and mounted as normal. I used to use it often but haven't seen it for many years. Perhaps it has changed its name.
