I'm working on biographies of natural scientists and desperately need the EXACT date of birth of Hermann Maximilian Schmidt-Goebel (1809-1882). Schmidt-Goebel is said to be born at Prague (Czech Republic) in 1809, and died at Klosterneuburg near Vienna (Austria) on August 17th 1882.

have you been successful yet? If not, try asking the archives of Charles University in Prague, where Schmidt-Goebel got his doctorate. They should have a record with all the information you need.

thank you for this hint but I've asked them already long ago. They can confirm 1809 as year of birth but are unable to produce an exact date of birth due to lack of records. The same is true for the universities of Olmütz/Olomouc and Lemberg/Lwiw where Schmidt-Goebel was employed later on. The question still remains an open problem.
