I am going to inoculate some wheat seeds with common bunt spores. I will use the dry method by mixing the wheat and spores together. I want to know the best time to do the inoculation. Is it better to do it before the planting directly or I can do this one week before the planting?
If you inoculate the seeds with the dry method, there will be no problem with the small time difference. Spores of common bunt can survive up to 4 years in soil 1). Just avoid any wetting between inoculation and seeding - and as an additional security measure keep the seeds in the dark. It's my experience, that the spore hulls crack within minutes after becoming wet.

If i am not wrong, any species of Fungus needs specific humidity factor. Please see for the humidity and temperature requirements. If you can meet these requirements, you will have successful inoculation.
