I seldom read the questions on Research Gate, but yours caught my attention. Over a 50-yr period, I have worked in most of the developing countries of the world. The most effective program I have encountered that aims at breaking the cycle of inter-generational poverty is "The Working Boys Center" in Quito. The US headquarters for this organization is called "Family International;" Google both. The director is John Halligan, and a key associate is Cindy Sullivan. Contact them to learn what they have done during their 50 years of operation. I don't know of any journal articles about the Center (in Spanish "El Centro del Muchacho Trabajador"), but the Center has won prestigious awards, and there are reports about it. The Center started by aiming at breaking the cycle of poverty among shoeshine boys... boys who when they grew up fathered children who bacame shoeshine boys etc etc. The Center has a 10-point program for its member families (not just boys) that merits discussion in the technical literature, one of the points being the need for poor families to render service to others.

Very interesting question. Yea, I know how hard it is to break the cycle of inter-generational poverty-especially, abject poverty (my lived experience). Absolutely, this needs rigorous longitudinal intervention program! For the methodological part, the attached document may serve the purpose!

Two-generation families have access to high-quality early education and supports for children, assistance to strengthen parents’ care giving skills and tools to improve their economic standing, the outcomes for both will improve —and even more so when they live in supportive communities with strong ties to other families and interact with systems that are responsive to their needs

Thank you, Krishnan, for the additional resources on this topic.  A wholistic approach to intervention is optimal to break the cycle within families and to insure sustainability, I feel. There are several programs doing this but so many more are needed. It is a complex issue and coordinating the many facets can be daunting but not impossible. Thanks again.
