Although there are some studies with promising results (i.e. http://journals.ametsoc.org/doi/abs/10.1175/JAM2401.1) I could not find any operational end-user example. I am interested whether this has been overcome so I would really appreciate any feedback on the matter.
Seasonal forecasts for temperature and precipitation are provided in a flexible format from International Research Institute for Climate & Society (IRI), Columbia University. http://iridl.ldeo.columbia.edu/maproom/Global/Forecasts/index.html
The forecasts are probabilistic. By "flexible" I mean that a user can choose a threshold or quantile of interest and see the range of probable forecast outcomes relative to the historical climatological outcomes. That climatology period is also flexible.
Over the US, these are consistent with the NOAA CPC forecasts, and the forecast methodology that we use globally is one of the inputs.
The IRI also makes drought forecasts for US & Mexico, and these are connected to the North American drought monitor, in addition to being available from:

Thanks a lot for your answer, there is an overwhelming amount of interesting and useful information there! Do you know if there is any validation section of issued forecasts/tools? After diving for a while I wasn’t able to find any of its kind (besides the information in some forecast discussions).
From the main forecast page, there is a link to several realtime products, and also a verification area. The verification metrics are linked to specific questions a person may ask about the forecasts -- e.g. how accurate, how probabilistically reliable, etc.
