Most journals respond in around 6 - 12 months. I am looking for a journal in the field of hydrology, meteorology, hydrological data assessmesnt which have a short time response
From an editor position, I would like to let you know that journals don't take that long "answering", but the review process takes at least one month and then 3 more weeks to another month to have it pass the editor. If your article doesn't make it to minor corrections after the first round, your manuscript will be reviewed again...etc. Even if you are very quick in correcting, it is already 5 months just for the reviewing process.
Your manuscript then goes to the publishing process, and although most journals will now offer an "online first" possibility, it will take at least another month or two to have it processed.
This being said, it also depends on the quality of your findings and results. Nature, Science are really fast... and will publish within weeks to a couple of months.
Otherwise, short communications for the Journal of Hydrology are rather rapid as well (definitely less than 6 months).
I recomend you to have a look on every journal website because the time lapse from submission to publication is usually included and available and you can have an idea about the lasting of the procedure in every journal. There are also some journals that have a quick publishing such as MDPI journals. In any case I recomend you to have a look of the websites of the journals.
