If you are using datastream, it will be much more easier. you just need to pick up the start and end dates, then you press the excel sign, the whole period data will be there..

Thanks for your reply. I checked the functions of Datastream. Datastream mainly works with Economics data. I am dealing with precipitation data.

(1) What format is the dataset? (2) What programming language do you use?

If you use Matlab, it requires you to use a loop to go through each of the files and evaluate it.

Thanks for your interest. I am still looking for a proper solution of this problem.

Format of dataset is netCDF. I was using ArcGIS to extract data for selected latitude and Longitude. I think netCDF file can be open in MatLab but i am not sure . I have attached two files.You can open these files in Notepad and export them to MS Excel and Matlab.

Do you have any code that can extract data in this way?

The best way is to use R script with package ncdf, sp, raster and rgdal.

I hope you managed with R code. You can extract spatially averaged data for a catchment just by giving shape file as mask.

I can extract data with R from netcdf file. However, I cannot extract from APHRODITE file with a format like : "APHRO_ME_050deg_V1101.1951". Is there any way to convert this file into ".nc" file or any R package?
