I am involved in analysing a capture-mark-recapture survey dataset that covers in excess of 30 years. I am trying to establish whether this is in fact the longest running survey of its type in existence. I have yet to find another survey that has been running continuously for such a long period of time. I though this would be the place to ask!
Thanks for the info - I have done a search and it's a bit tricky to pin down exactly what project you are referring to - I guess there are alot of people studying tigers in India! Can you send me a link to the research website? Or let me know what year the survey started? And perhaps some of the research papers I could look at, or the names of the principal investigators?
There is a MSc thesis by Ria Nicole Tsaliagos, from 2002: EXAMINING INDETERMINATE GROWTH IN FRESHWATER TURTLES. It can be downloaded from the internet.

Several freshwater turtle populations on the Savannah River Site (SRS) in South Carolina contain known-age individuals, many originally captured in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Since then, over 30,000 turtles have been involved in mark-release-recapture studies.
I think that somewhere I read about chelonian population in which marking started in 1940s, but I can't remember the exact paper. I'll let you know when I find it.

A team I collaborate with has been studying diamondback terrapins in South Carolina, USA since 1983--continuously.
Many individual-based population monitoring studies on hole-nesting birds can be considered as capture-mark-recapture studies. Great Tits in Wytham woods (since 1947) were already mentioned, and many more exist, e.g. Dutch Great Tit and Blue Tit populations (1955-), Great Tits and Blue Tits in Pirio, Corsica (1978-)... I'm myself working in a team studying Great Tits (1969-) and Willow Tits (1975-) in Oulu, Finland.

there are also many studies on seabirds with very long-term datasets, especially albatrosses in Antarctic areas.

There is a very famous case of long survival after ringing of a Manx Shearwater (Puffinus puffinus) in UK, which lived at least 55 years; see:

I think there are also some similar cases (of more than 30 years of survival) with Cory's Shearwaters (Calonectris diomedea borealis) ringed sistematically in the Selvagens Islands (Eastern Atlantic) from the 60s, but I don't have at this moment precise references on this.
